Project Overview

Keighley Extended Schools Cluster

Overview of our cluster

Our cluster of extended schools is located in Keighley, West Yorkshire, the UK. Collectively, the schools provide education for nursery and primary pupils aged 4-11 years of age and secondary students aged 11-19 years of age.

As extended schools we are providing a range of activities to further enrich the lives of children within the community, make a positive contribution to the Every Child Matters agenda and promote harmony and community cohesion within the Keighley area.

We have been provided with funding to help establish our cluster of extended schools via the Education and Skills team of the Local Authority.

In this overview, you will find some more information about:

The schools

The primary and secondary schools currently within our extended schools cluster are:

Strategic leadership and coordination

The headteachers and a governor representative from each school are working collaboratively with the cluster coordinator to develop a strategic plan for the cluster and to actively involve other community organisations to ensure that there is coherent provision. We have been fortunate to receive support from consultants funded by the National College for School Leadership to help us formulate our vision and strategic plan for the work of the cluster.

Activities within our cluster are coordinated by Nazia Hussain - our Extended Schools Project Manager who is based at Victoria Primary School. We have provided a list of all the key contact information such as addresses, telephone and fax numbers.

Our partners

We are working in partnership with a range of community organisations. Here is a list of of our partners, some with links:

Additional material and resources

A small range of materials have been published to provide information to support the development of extended school provision. These include:

  • "Community Conversation" - a NCSL research associate report written by Kay Lindley, the headteacher of Victoria Primary School, looks at one school's approach to developing an extended school through stakeholder conversation. Available as a download in the form of a PDF document.

  • Extended schools remodelling programme - an introduction. Available as a download in the form of a PDF document.

  • a toolkit for managers has been published on the DFES website to support the development of responsive, customer-led and coherent ways of working. This is available to download in the form of a PDF document.
