The Sullivans School is part of Department of Defense School Schools (D0DDS) and is located on a military base near Tokyo, Japan. Our school is named for The Five Sullivans Brothers who lost their lives during WW2. Our “City” contains many ships and submarines and most of our parents are proudly serving/supporting our country on The USS George Washington. Students in Ms. P. and Ms. D.’s second grade classes worked together to create and produce this video podcast. Second grade classes at PS 112M did an inquiry study on New York City. They read books and did research online to find out the answers to their questions. They also went on a trip to the Staten Island Ferry, Museum of Natural History and will go to the Transit Museum and other trips in the future. Ms. Jennie showed students pictures that she took around the city. She likes to take pictures of interesting things and places she sees as she travels around. In Technology class each student created their own PowerPoint presentations about NYC. They inserted the pictures Ms. Jennie took into our slides. Students also found pictures online from Google images. They created this podcast just for you so that you too will know interesting facts about our exciting city! They had so much fun learning about NYC and hope you enjoy their episode!

Mrs. Marybeth Owens’ first grade students at Holly Heights Elementary School enjoyed creating this podcast with the help of Mrs. Carmelita Graham, our district’s technology trainer. This project-based learning experience included a classroom visit from Mrs. Mimi Peterson, a member of Millville’s historical society, classroom discussions about landmarks in the city and the history of the city, and student visits to some of the city’s landmarks with their parents. Each student chose the segment that they would be interested in talking about in this episode. The students also did research at home with their parents and brought back to school artifacts, pictures, and documents that would help the class prepare to create this podcast. They hope that you enjoy listening as much as the they enjoyed creating the episode!
