by Joanne McCluskey.

As a teacher who just wanted to know what a podcast even is, I am so happy to have found your site and courses online. Wow! Do I have much to learn. I will be taking baby steps as I learn but everyone has to start somewhere. I came across an article in " i.e. magazine" August 2006 edition and indirectly it lead me to you. I will be passing your site along to other teachers when we start school on Tuesday.

Our new Principal wants our school to become more involved in technology. I like the idea very much but unfortuately the school district does not provide enough time to learn new areas of technology. Podcasting maybe a way for me to add to my 5th grade Science Program but I first have to learn more myself. I know this year will be one of exploration and experimentation for me.

Again, thanks for being there for me!

JPMC

by Dave Jobbings.

Here is another interesting article relating to research into the effectiveness of podcasting.

"Formative evaluation strategies helped identify a solution to a learning dilemma" is by Sarah Brittain, Pietrek Glowacki, Jared Van Ittersum, and Lynn Johnson. The article was published in Volume 29, Number 3 of Educause Quarterly in 2006.

Thanks Karen

Another piece of research came my way, which may be of interest to colleagues in higher education:

" <#1.0#>" by Sarah Bryans Bongey, Gerald Cizadlo, Lynn Kalnbach.

This article was published in Volume 23, Issue 3 of the Journal "Campus-Wide Information Systems" in 2006 and you can find more details and access an abstract online.

by Carolina Rodriguez.

Hello Colleages.

I am getting quite interested in doing research. I had explored a little bit about podcasting and its use in second language learning.

For this purpose I had planned a place (a forum as a blog) where my students had posted some of the podcasts that they edited last year in my language classes. And my plan is to share that with you as a pedagogycal experience in secondary school students around english learning.

If you teach to young learners and you want to walk this path with me...lets start to share ideas and build the space for our pupils.

I am just starting to try podcasting...so...we can think on better ways to encourage our learners in this age of technology and advances.

Please, give a look at. http://www.proyectemonos.org/8/1106

and if you want ...just suscribe your class to this adventure...I will be there always helping you and asking for your advices....

Best regards

CAROLINA RODRIGUEZ BOHORQUEZ

by Karen Fritch.

I support online course instructors at our college and we are looking into supporting instructors with podcasting. One of the obvious questions that came up, but had no answer was, how many students have and use mobile devices for receiving podcasts, either audio or video. We don't have that answer yet but I found this and thought I would share: http://www.pewinternet.org/pdfs/PIP_Podcasting.pdf

The research, based on a survey of students on a course of Engineering Management, focused on Podcasting Your Lectures - Will your students stay or will they go? and posted on the mobile-learning.blog-city.com/ on 18 January 2007.

This provides a useful insight and also references two other pieces of research:

Lane, C (2006), UW Podcasting: Evaluation of Year One http://catalyst.washington.edu/research_development/papers/2006/podcasting_year1.pdf

Lum, L (2006), The Power of Podcasting http://www.diverseeducation.com/artman/publish/article_5583.shtml

by Dave Jobbings.
Can you help? There is a dearth of information about podcasting
pedagogy and educational research into the effectiveness of podcasting
as a resource for teaching and learning.

Do you know of any research or published articles?

Here is your chance to inform the debate by pooling information.

by Lisa Germany.

Hola Graciela!

Vivi en Santiago por 4 anos! (lo siento, sin accentos).

Rather than straight audio podcasts, you could investigate doing screencasts. With this method, you navigate your way through the Moodle site (for example) capturing the motions you make and your voice talking the students through the process with some screen capture software.

The only issue would be bandwidth for the students downloading the pod/screencasts (screencasts are larger than audio only podcasts). I know this would be an issue outside of the major centres in Chile. Alternatively, you could burn a CD with the "podcasts" and mail it to them...

Saludos
Lisa
