Schools and Web 2.0
This is one of the most exciting features in new developments associated with the internet.
Web 2.0 is already having a major impact on the how new technologies can be used effectively to enhance teaching and learning.
As yet, there is no consensus on its exact meaning of "Web 2.0" but the term is often used to refer to a second phase in the evolution of the World Wide Web.
Originally, the internet gave us static websites, the use of search engines and the ability to surf from one website to another. This model is often recognised as "Web 1.0".
Some of the recent concepts, technologies and features of Web 2.0 include: weblogs and blogs, linklogs or social bookmarking, podcasting, RSS feeds and wikis.
In practice, any of these can be exploited by schools and deployed to support effective leadership and management, professional development and enhance the quality of teaching and learning.
